We’ll keep an eye on the women’s beach volleyball final at 11 p.m., where the dominant U.S. duo of Misty May-Treanor and Keri Walsh will take on No. 1 seeds Tian Jia and Wang Jie of China, who are vying for that country’s first gold in the sport.

careen volleyball ? women’s finals

11 p.m.: And the gold-medal match between China and the U.S. is now underway. We’ll update after the first set.
9:40 p.m.: With the rain pounding down and winds picking up speed, the Brazilians capitalized on some uncommon Chinese errors to creep back into the second set, pulling within two points to make it 19-17. But a pair of wicked serves by China puts this one away, and Xue/Zhang win the bronze in women’s beach volleyball, their country’s first in the sport. That would also be China’s 21st bronze and 80th medal overall, if you’re keeping score. And we are.
